Using LightBox
Terms of Service
Last updated · June 11, 2026
What LightBox is
LightBox is a personal media library — a place to upload, organize, play, and optionally share images, video, and audio. It runs on hardware the operator controls, not a third-party cloud. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.
This is a small, operator-run project rather than a commercial platform. We aim to keep it simple, private, and honest about what it does.
Accounts and use
You sign in with a username and password, or with optional Google or GitHub sign-in. Your sign-in is shared across the operator's sites (Arc Codex), so one account works across them. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes — never in plain text.
You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your credentials secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password or revoke the connected OAuth provider right away.
Your content and your rights
You keep ownership of everything you upload. LightBox claims no rights over your media beyond what is needed to store, process, and display it back to you and to anyone you explicitly share it with.
You may only upload media you own or otherwise have the right to store and share. Do not upload copyrighted material you do not have permission to use. You are solely responsible for the content you add and for ensuring you have the rights to it.
Privacy and sharing
Your media is private by default. Nothing you upload is visible to anyone else unless you take an explicit action to share it.
How sharing works
- Sharing a batch generates a token-based public link — a long, unguessable URL.
- Anyone who has that link can view the shared media, without signing in. Treat the link like a key.
- You can stop sharing at any time by toggling the batch back to private, which disables the link.
- Do not use sharing to distribute other people's private information or content you have no right to share.
Acceptable use
Keep it lawful and keep it yours. The following are not allowed:
- Uploading content you do not own or have the rights to (copyright infringement).
- Illegal content, or content that depicts or facilitates harm.
- Malware, or files intended to attack the service or its viewers.
- Attempting to access other users’ accounts, media, or the underlying systems.
- Automated scraping or bulk harvesting of media or share links.
- Abusing share links to redistribute material at scale without rights.
DVD ripping and format-shifting
Some media in this library comes from the operator's own optical discs. The DVD-rip pipeline is the operator's personal format-shifting of physical media they own — converting discs they purchased into files for their own library. It is a personal tool, not a ripping service offered to others, and it is used only for media the operator has the right to format-shift.
Disclaimer and liability
LightBox is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. It is a personal project and may change, break, or go offline at any time.
- We are not liable for loss of, or damage to, uploaded media — keep your own backups.
- We are not responsible for content uploaded by users or shared via public links.
- Use of the service is at your own risk.
Takedown and removal requests
If you believe content here infringes your rights or should be removed, email ross@arc-codex.com with enough detail to identify the material (such as the share link or a description). We review legitimate requests and act on them promptly.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect legal or operational changes. Material changes will be posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date above will reflect the latest revision. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
